Life in Malaysia
Housing Information
In Malaysia, most Japanese and other foreigners live in condominiums, many of which come equipped with beds and appliances, along with a decent range of furniture and facilities. Furthermore, there are numerous properties that offer access to amenities such as pools and gyms, allowing for a fulfilling lifestyle.
As for the budget, the range for individuals is approximately RM1300 to 2500, while families should consider a budget starting from RM2500.
Commodity Price
The cost of living in Malaysia is lower than in Japan, approximately half to a third of Japanese prices.
Utility fees are also relatively cheaper, with water bills ranging from RM13 to 40, electricity bills from RM150 to 300, gas bills from RM13 to 25, and internet fees from RM80 to 200. Looking at the prices of food and beverages, mineral water costs around RM2.5, a cup of Starbucks coffee is RM13, and a Big Mac from McDonald’s costs about RM20.5. Additionally, payment methods have become increasingly digital in recent years, with online payments and mobile app payments becoming more common, not just cash transactions.

Living Environment
Throughout the year, Malaysia maintains a stable, warm climate with an average temperature of around 28 degrees.
Its environment is comfortable due to the strikingly low occurrence of natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. Transport and living infrastructure are well-developed, with a comprehensive system of public transportation, including buses and trains. The household internet penetration rate is high at approximately 90%, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the city. Additionally, Malaysia is considered relatively safe among Southeast Asian countries. With the presence of numerous international schools and general hospitals where Japanese is spoken, it’s also a suitable place for raising children.
Food
Malaysia is a multicultural nation, which is reflected in its diverse culinary scene. The most prevalent types of cuisine are Malay, Chinese, and Indian. Moreover, given that 60% of the population is Muslim, Halal food is widely embraced. These cuisines, all of high quality, are well-suited to Japanese palates. As such, Malaysia offers the opportunity to enjoy delicious gourmet dishes from across Southeast Asia at affordable prices.
